…I’ll catch up with my A-Z blog posts…!
I know. It’s probably cheating. But this is my W post.
[Still need to do V, and X (which is today’s letter)…they will come…]
I was continuing my research on story slams while at the Northlands Storytelling Confabulation in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin…
In fact, I sacrificed going to what seemed, by all reports, to have been the singularly most wonderful session at the conference (Janice Del Negro’s fringe performance) in order to go to the Friday evening story slam there. Committed, I am.
I put my name in the hat, but it wasn’t pulled. Heard a number of good stories around the theme of “Mischief.” Witnessed a slightly different style of judging and conducting the slam from what I’ve seen so far at the Denver Moth and the Boulder Story Slam…
Here’s something interesting: Non-personal-experience stories were welcomed as well…and the two Next Generation tellers (age 30 or younger) who told were the only ones to not tell personal narratives; one told a traditional tale and the other a literary story. All the “older” storytellers told personal tales.
Given as how the “common wisdom” is that the personal-story-slam-thing is more a “younger folks” thing…well, this may be something to chew on!
In any case, the storytelling conference in Wisconsin was wonderful, I worked well (gave a well-received workshop on Interfaith Storytelling), and…wondering about just which day this week, but I will catch up.
Thanks for reading…Pam
